DAN SZELINGOWSKI

Club Manager

Dan returns to the Lake Club for his 7th year as Club Manager. Dan began his tenure with the Lake Club during its centennial celebration in 2017 and spent one season (2022) as the General Manager of The Noe Pond Club in Chatham, NJ, before returning in 2023. Alongside the Board of Governors, Dan has stewarded the Club through a period of continuous growth and improvement. During his tenure he has made strides in improving Club communications, overseen the redesign of the website, re-energized Summer Camp, and upgraded Club facilities and amenities including the Kayak Room renovation project and the installation of a bathroom facility. Additionally, Dan successfully navigated the Club through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

 

His related work experience includes working as a teacher, coach, and administrator for the past 18 years at Delbarton School in Morristown, NJ. During this time, he worked as a member of Delbarton's science department teaching every grade level from 7 - 12th and serving in numerous roles outside of the classroom including baseball and football coach, admissions officer, co-chair of Delbarton's reaccreditation, and class moderator (dean).

 

Dan graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 2006 with his B.A. in Neuroscience where he was a four-year letter winner on the most successful football team in school history. In 2012, he earned his M.A. in Education Leadership, Management and Policy from Seton Hall University. Then, in 2018, earned a Certificate in Advanced Education Leadership from Harvard's Graduate School of Education. As a lifelong learner, Dan has continued his graduate studies in pursuit of his doctorate and is currently ABD (All But Dissertation) in the Education Leadership (Ed.D.) program at Seton Hall University. Dan currently resides in Mendham with his wife Kristin, a STEM teacher in Livingston, and daughters Klara (9), Winifred (5) and Elizabeth (3).

STEVE MAYBE

Assistant Club Manager &

Director of the Waterfront

Steve enters his 5th year at the Lake Club and second year as Assistant Club Manager & Director of the Waterfront. Over the past four years, Steve has gained extensive experience at SL&GC working in various capacities including Director of Summer Camp and Club Manager (2022). In the past, Steve has served as the Sports Camp and Trip Camp coordinator for the Summit and West Morris YMCA summer camps, respectively. As Asst. Manager & Director of the Waterfront, Steve will directly oversee Summer Camp and Waterfront safety which includes staffing, training, and scheduling lifeguards, in addition to maintaining club-owned watercraft, safety equipment, and boating accessories.

 

His related work experience includes working as a teacher from Pre-K through high school for the last 16 years. During this time, he worked as an aide to a student with special needs, was appointed athletic director of an elementary school, and earned two certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Fitness Nutrition Specialist and Youth Exercise Specialist. He has been teaching health and physical education and coaching several sports at Oratory Prep (Summit, NJ) since 2014.

 

Steve currently coaches middle school baseball, basketball, and cross country. In addition, he moderates the Fitness Club at Oratory, helping students understand how to use the weight room to fit their healthy lifestyle goals. He graduated from Eastern Connecticut State in 2008 with a B.S. in Health and Physical Education. Steve currently resides in Long Valley with his wife Rachel, a customer supply chain manager at MARS Inc., and daughters Hannah (9) and Sadie (5).

DEIRDRE O'MARA

A native of Gillette, NJ, with a B.A. from George Washington University, Deirdre has taught numerous upper level science courses such as AP Biology, Marine Biology, and Chemistry throughout her distinguished career at the Pingry School. Along with creating a culture for students to learn and thrive in the classroom, Deirdre has fostered numerous extracurricular opportunities for students to become passionate life-long learners including the development of SMART team, Waksman Student Scholars Program, Biology Honors Projects and a travel course to Belize to study reef ecology. In addition to her expertise as an educator, Deirdre has been the head girls' varsity swimming coach since 2016 and is also currently an assistant junior varsity tennis coach. Her swimmers regularly compete at the highest levels in the state and she has coached swimmers that have competed in the Olympics.

Deirdre is married to her husband, Jerry O'Mara, and they have three children. Daughters Claire and Grace, are currently pursuing graduate degrees at Harvard and the University of Kansas, respectively, and son, Jerry, attends Brown University where he is a member of the swim team. Deirdre remains active in the New Jersey Masters swimming community and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Sean Bio

SEAN LARSON

Sean Larson is the head Tennis Pro at Somerset Lake & Game Club and Strength and Conditioning Coach/Tennis Instructor at the Warren Health & Racquet Club.  Sean has been a USPTA certified Tennis professional since 2008 along with being certified as a Speed and Agility Specialist.  

 

Sean has owned FiT Athlete, LLC, a business that has specialized in Strength and Agility training for nearly a decade.  Beyond starting his own business, Sean has been coaching tennis and training athletes for over 20 years.  An alum of Voorhees High School, Sean played four years of varsity tennis and one year of football, along with competing in the NJ Marines Physical Fitness Competition where he won 2nd in the state and #1 in the state broad jump!  

 

He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Salisbury University in 2007 where he captained the tennis team for both his junior and senior years.  Additionally, Sean used to compete in powerlifting competitions, where he earned a 3rd place finish in the Salisbury University bench press competition his freshman year and won the Maryland state bench press his senior year.  Sean's business FiT Athlete has helped change the lives of many children and adults whether to achieve weight loss goals, gain confidence, or become a better athlete.  Along the way, he has coached students of all levels from young beginners to top professionals.  Sean is also devoted to giving back to the community by partnering FiT Athlete with various fundraisers helping local kids in need in association with institutions such as Sloan Kettering.  Sean and his wife Jackie currently live in Bridgewater with their daughter, Cali (5).

JESSE SMITH

Director of Buildings & Grounds

Jesse Smith started as the new caretaker for the Somerset Lake and Game Club in November of 2021.  As an avid outdoorsman, he is excited to become part of SLGC’s fantastic property and rich history.  Jesse and his wife are both from Brookside, where they raised their two daughters on the same property that he grew up on.  He spent many years in medical sales, having retired in 2018 after 45 years at Johnson & Johnson.

 

Jesse’s passions include all activities helping other people and protecting our seniors.  His hobbies include hiking and camping in Adirondack Mountains, skiing, boating and sailing, spin classes and yoga.  He enjoys all outdoor activities and doesn’t mind being left out in the rain.  He is also an avid volunteer, serving on the Mendham Township First Aid Squad for 44 years and maintaining his Emergency Medical Technician certification.  

 

His related work experience includes maintaining the Brookside Community Club for the past 35 years and serving as Building and Grounds Chair.  He also holds positions of various responsibilities within Mendham Township Planning Board, Tree Preservation Committee and the Board of Health.

 

Jesse resides in Brookside with his wife, a black lab and two cats.  His (now grown) daughters also still live nearby.  He looks forward to another successful season at SL&GC and always welcomes members’ input and feedback.

STEVE SEDLOCK

Assistant Tennis Pro

Steve Sedlock brings us 50 years of tennis experience as a player, instructor, coach, captain and tournament organizer.  He was a #1 singles player in high school, as well as in the Mountain Valley Conference.  He also reached #4 in singles (age group) in the USTA Mid-Atlantic Region (Virginia). 

​

His focus is planning weekly group activities, teaching adult and junior private lessons and hosting special club events.  In the spring and fall seasons, he works closely with Sean as part of the FIT Athlete team.  

 

Steve is a graduate of Virginia Tech and has a Master's from Virginia Commonwealth University.  He's a Level One certified USPTA Certified Tennis Instructor who looks forward to helping our members work on their game, while having fun and getting great exercise along they way.
